N O R H C AR O L I N A 283 Harold Goodman Circle, P.O. Box 308, Concord, NC 28026 - www.ci
High Performance Living
December 19, 2012
Verna Best, Director
Office of Economic Opportunity
NC Department of Health and Human Services
2420 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC 27699 -2420
Dear Ms. Best:
Over the past two years since I have served as the Residents Services Coordinator for the
City of Concord Housing Department, many of our residents have benefitted from the
Self - Sufficiency program sponsored by the Salisbury -Rowan Community Action
Agency. Through funding from their Community Services Block Grant, they have led
several educational workshops and sessions for us, as well as for the community, to help
families become more independent and self- sufficient. This program has played such a
vital role in the community by helping families to identify their strengths and the barriers
that keep them from moving forward. It has provided the needed support for these
families by assisting them with obtaining and maintaining employment, providing safe,
affordable housing, child care and health care needs, transportation, opportunities to
complete their education or vocational training, money management and ways to make
the best use of their available income.
We have been so grateful for the information the Salisbury -Rowan Community Action
Agency has provided for this community. They have made such a tremendous difference
in the lives of those on this program, educating and preparing them to lead a healthier
lifestyle. We, therefore, support their efforts to continue their Self- Sufficiency Program.
With funding from the Community Services Block Grant, our residents, as well as
other members of our community, will be able to make further progress toward achieving
independence and self - sufficiency.
It is indeed an honor and pleasure to be in partnership with the Salisbury -Rowan
Community Action Agency in the cause to help improve the quality of life of our
residents and this community.
Sincerely,
nobia L.
