Tactics identified by the project participants and consulting team include: <br />OBJECTIVE 1: CONTENT & PROGRAMS <br />• Continue to expand the availability of college- credit classes in high schools <br />• Expand entrepreneurship education at the college level <br />• Expand available of apprenticeship programs that serve high - growth industry needs <br />• Expand programs that boost soft skills in students and demonstrate their importance to students and parents <br />OBJECTIVE 2: COLLABORATION <br />• Continue to strengthen the Competitive Workforce Alliance, the workforce development partnership across the 16- county <br />region ( http: / /www.agreatworkforce.com <br />• Consider the creation of a "CRM" system (customer relationship management) to capture employer feedback and direct local <br />institutions <br />• Survey employers once a year as previously done by the Central ina Workforce Development Board <br />• Conduct ongoing (6 month or annual) assessments of the supply- demand gap in the workforce (skills, occupations, education) <br />OBJECTIVE 3: COMMUNICATION <br />• Communicate to K -12 students and parents the value of STEM degrees <br />• Create a regional career portal to serve as a "one- stop" for students, parents, and guidance counselors on careers. Information <br />should include the education requirements for occupations, their wage rates, and growth forecasts in the region and counties <br />• Expand the availability of guidance counselors and educate them on career realities <br />• Leverage the CPCC's management of the local public television station to communicate career choices to the public <br />OBJECTIVE 4: CONTEXT <br />• Complete the Education Alignment Study and communicate the findings to elected leaders and industry <br />• Support non - profits such as MeckEd.org and other regional entities in their efforts to communicate the need for an education <br />focus for all communities of region <br />• Ensure education and workforce providers remain involved in the region's economic and competitiveness events and agendas <br />The region is currently conducting an Education Alignment Study that will identify additional tactics for regional partners to achieve <br />these goals.
