CABARRUS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY 2013 SUMMER READING PROGRAM (2013) Beginning in 2012 -2013, the SRP statistics were moved to this survey. The SRP questions remain the same. Please answer questions for the summer of 2013. 10.Library staff did school /daycare visits to advertise the Yes summer reading program. Birth to grade 5 11.Number of birth to Grade 5 registered participants 4,102 12.Total SRP /SRC events/programs held for birth to grade 5 213 13.Total attendees at events for birth to grade 5 programs (all 8,527 ages) 14.Total books circulated (juvenile), June 1 - Aug. 31 102,267 15.Anecdote (birth to grade 5) After completing her 15 -hour reading record and receiving a blue ribbon, one little girl came back to the library with a stack of homemade handouts for us. The half -sheet handouts said, "Everyone should do the reading program because it's really fun and at the end you get a ribbon." She handed them to our staff and explained that we should give them out to kids who did not want to sign up as a testimonial about how it really is fun. A little boy came to check out an armload of books. His mom said, "If you read all those books you'll grow up to be smart." He replied, "If I carry all these books I'll grow up to be strong too!" One mom was very thankful for the SRP. Her third grade daughter hated to read but got very excited when she got her SRP reading record. The daughter started checking out books and reading them. The daughter loved the Puppy Place series by Ellen Miles. They even wrote the author and received a reply and framed it .The mother was thanking everyone in the library and most of all thanking us for having the SRP. A mother said her child has learning disabilities and was very excited after attending a clay program during SRP. Her child took home several related topic books and made every clay project in them. A mother said the libraries SRP programs have inspired her son to try new thins and read.
