Resolution No. 2002- <br /> <br />CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is constructing a <br />thoroughfare traversing through the City of Concord and Cabarrus County currently known as <br />the Westside Bypass; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has requested that the <br />County Commissioners and Concord City Council consider naming this portion of roadway in <br />order for a sign to be placed on Interstate 85 upon the completion of the road; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, George W. Liles has served our community unselfishly for many years in <br />numerous capacities, including eight years as the Mayor of the City of Concord; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, throughout his years of service, Dr. Liles has worked constantly for the <br />betterment of our community and has demonstrated his love for our citizens by being <br />instrumental in establishing the Community Free Clinic that provides free medical care for those <br />cabarrus County residents who are unable to afford proper medical assistance; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Concord City Council unanimously approved a resolution on May 29, <br />2001, requesting that the portion of the Westside Bypass from 1-85 to NC 49 be named "George <br />W. Liles Parkway" in recognition of Mayor Liles's efforts and accomplishments on behalf of the <br />citizens of this community. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners concurs with the naming of that portion of the Westside Bypass that passes <br />through the Concord municipal limits and Cabarrus County (I-85 to NC 49), including that <br />section of the project from NC 49 to approximately the mid-point of Stough Road that is still <br />located within the county, as "George W. Liles Parkway." " <br /> <br />Adopted this the 18th day of March 2002. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Robert M.
