Canaday, Sheriff <br /> <br />January 14, 1998 <br /> <br />Mr. Frank Clifton, County Manager <br />Cabarrus County <br />Concord, NC 28025 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Clifton: <br /> <br />I met with representatives of the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus <br />County and with Betsy Carpenter with Cabarrus Animal Protection. <br /> <br />Mrs. Carpenter has agreed not to be involved on a daily basis at the shelter and desires to <br />continue to perform investigations of abuse cases and be an advocate for animal welfare. <br /> <br />The Humane Society has agreed to operate the adoption program out of the new shelter <br />under the guidelines listed below. <br /> <br />1. Members of the Humane Society will staff the shelter facility on Monday, <br />Wednesday and Friday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM <br />until 2:00 PM. (Schedule subject to change based on demand and volunteer availability). <br /> <br />2. They will select adoptable animals from the general population at the shelter and <br />will prepare the animals for viewing (bath, groom, etc.). Once selected and prepared <br />these animals will be moved to the areas designated for adoptable animals. This will <br />restrict the general public from entering into the areas of the shelter which will be used <br />for quarantine of animals. <br /> <br />3. Once one of the animals is selected for adoption the Humane Society will have a <br />veterinarian come to the shelter and examine the animal, give necessary shots, etc. And <br />the animal will be placed in the adoption section of the shelter. When a citizen chooses <br />an animal to adopt the citizen will be required to pay a fee of $65.00 for a dog and $35 <br />for a cat. This fee will be paid to Cabarrus County for that animal. <br /> <br />4. At the time the new owner receives their animal the Humane Society <br />representative will have the new owner execute appropriate paper work that will <br /> <br />P.O. BOX 525 25 CORBAN AVE.
