CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />Meeting Date: 1-20-98 Agenda Item# <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Welfare Reform / County Work First Block Grant Plan <br /> <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br /> <br />1) Thank the Welfare Reform Planning Committee for the excellent work it has done to date. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />Certify and submit the proposed County Work First Block Grant Plan under the under the <br />cover letter provided. The Plan continues our electing status and the letter indicates the <br />County may request a change to standard status later if the understandings given do not hold <br />true and/or the stipulations listed are not met. (The Board can request a change to standard <br />status at least until the State block grant plan is approved by the General Assembly this <br />summer). <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />Request our delegation to the General Assembly seek an extension of the Work Over Welfare <br />Program, an addition of pay for performance provisions, and a broadening of coverage to all <br />Work First Program recipients, It should be noted the County is seeking this measure to <br />assure the continuation of this highly successful program, particularly in the event the County <br />is not chosen as an electing county. <br /> <br />4) Request our delegation support measures which would remove the risks and costs associated <br /> with electing status. <br /> <br />5) Schedule a review of the County's requested status to take place prior to the General <br /> Assembly's action on the State Work First Program Block Grant Plan this summer. <br /> <br />Attachments X Yes No <br /> <br />Expected length of Presentation 10 minutes <br /> <br />]]as this been reviewed by the Budget Director? ~ Yes <br />If yes, Budget Director's Recommendations/Comments: <br /> <br />__ No __ Not Required <br /> <br /> <br />
