1996 - 1997 Accomplishments <br /> <br />Countywide Bicycle Mapping/Signing Project <br />Approved <br />North Carolina Department of Transportation Bicycle <br />Department allocated $30,000 to Cabarrus County for <br />a countywide Mapping and Signing project. The project <br />will begin in 1997 - 98. <br /> <br />State Funds for New Park Expansion <br />A North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Grant <br />($29,750) was approved for a proposed Bakers Creek <br />Greenway Expansion Project. <br /> <br />School/Park Projects <br />Parks & Recreation and school officials jointly com- <br />posed plans for community utilization of the following <br />school facilities: Rocky. River, Concord Middle, <br />Aycock (Lake Concord), and Winecoff. <br /> <br />Joint Recreation/Principals Meeting Estab- <br />lished <br />A joint committee, composed of recreation and school <br />officials, was established for the purpose of maintain- <br />ing good communications between school and parks <br />and recreation programs, The committee will meet three <br />times a year prior to each seasonal program. <br /> <br />Assessment of School/Park Facilities <br />The department completed an assessment report on the <br />present condition of public school/park outdoor facili- <br />ties. A written report, preliminary cost estimates, and <br />video were presented assessing the general condition <br />of these twenty-eight school/park sites. <br /> <br />Community Fishing Program <br />NC Wildlife Commission initiated this program at Frank <br />Liske Park. The Wildlife Commission pays 75% of the <br />total cost of the program. They provided grass carp for <br />the lake, and 600 fish every other month; built and in- <br />stalled artificial fish reefs; furnished and installed fish <br />feeders and food; provided rods and reels for the tackle <br />loaner program and tackle boxes for the participants; <br />and provided maintenance, educational programs, etc. <br /> <br /> <br />
