1792 <br />NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County has a strong history of improving lives, strengthening <br />communities, and making our state a better place through volunteerism; and <br />WHEREAS, during National Volunteer Week, we celebrate the impact of volunteer <br />service and come together to tackle community needs and foster a culture of civic engagement; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Cooperative Extension volunteers have dedicated countless hours as <br />Master Gardener Volunteers, Extension Community Association Volunteers, or 4-H volunteers <br />to bring life enhancing opportunities to the individuals of Cabarrus County helping them to thrive <br />in their local communities; and <br />WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week was enacted in 1974 by President Richard Nixon <br />to celebrate the spirit of volunteerism, urging all Americans to seek opportunities to provide <br />service to their community; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County residents are encouraged to learn about local volunteer <br />opportunities, by reaching out to your County Extension Office or other county or local <br />organizations; and <br />WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week should serve as a catalyst for residents to serve <br />our county today; to commit to volunteer by signing up now through Cooperative Extension, in <br />a local school, government department, non-profit or other option in your community, to promote <br />volunteerism in our families and communities through an invitation to serve together; and to be <br />"all in" for Cabarrus County when it is needed most; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners, do hereby <br />proclaim April 21-27, 2024, as "NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK", in Cabarrus County, and <br />commend its observance to all citizens. <br />ADOPTED this 15t" day of April, 2024. <br />Stephen M.
