• Off - premise sign - A sign other than an on- premise sign. Includes outdoor <br />advertising. <br />• Planned development sign - A sign used in conjunction with an approved <br />planned residential, office, business, industrial or mixed use development. <br />• Political sign - A sign that advertises a candidate or issue to be voted upon <br />on a definite election day. <br />• Portable sign - A sign that is not permanently attached to either the ground, a <br />structure or a building, nor was it ever intended to be so attached, that can <br />easily be moved from one location to another. It may be equipped for towing or <br />possess an axle, wheel or wheel mechanism. <br />• Public interest sign - A sign on private property that displays information <br />pertinent to the safety or legal responsibilities of the general public such as <br />warning and no trespassing signs. <br />• Real estate sign - A sign that is used to offer for sale, lease, or rent the <br />premises upon which such sign is placed. <br />• Sight preservation triangle - That portion of area off the paved road surface <br />occurring at intersections that must be kept clear of all signs except as <br />specifically allowed in this ordinance. The sight preservation triangle is <br />measured as set forth below. <br />• Sign - Any form of publicity, visible from any public highway directing <br />attention to any individual activity, business, service, commodity or product <br />and conveyed by means of words, figures, numerals, lettering, emblems, <br />devices, designs, trademarks or other pictorial matter designed to convey such <br />information. Such may be displayed by means of bills, panels, posters, paints, <br />or other devices erected on an open framework, or attached or otherwise <br />applied to posts, stakes, poles, buildings or other structures or supports. <br />Neither newspaper delivery boxes nor mailboxes are considered to be signs. <br />• Sign face area - The area within a single, continuous perimeter enclosing the <br />extreme limits of characters, lettering, logos, illustrations, or ornamentations, <br />together with any material or color forming an integral part of the display or to <br />differentiate the sign from the background to which it is placed. Structural <br />supports bearing no sign copy shall not be included in the sign area. If a sign is <br />attached to an entrance wall or fence, only that portion of that wall or fence onto <br />which the sign face or letters are placed shall be calculated in the sign area. <br />Only one side of a sign shall be included in the calculation. <br />11 -3 <br />Attachment number 1 \n <br />G -4 Page 243 <br />
