Special Event - An activity sponsored by and for the benefit of a nonprofit, <br />noncommercial, or governmental organization such as bake sales, fairs, <br />carnivals, etc. <br />• Subdivision sales sign - Signage located within a subdivision for the purpose <br />of selling lots, houses or units within the subdivision. <br />• Temporary sign n - A sign which is not permanently installed in the ground or <br />affixed to any structure or building, and which is erected for a period of 30 days <br />or less. <br />• Temporary agricultural sign - A sign, either on or off premise, the display of <br />which is directly related to the harvesting and subsequent sale of seasonal <br />agricultural and horticultural products. <br />• Temporary project development sign - A sign that pertains to the <br />development of a new subdivision, planned multifamily development, planned <br />shopping center, industrial, office, or business park, or similar land parcel. <br />• Wall sign - Any sign directly attached to an exterior wall of a building or <br />dependent upon a building for its support with its exposed face parallel or <br />approximately parallel to the plane of the wall or structure on which the sign is <br />affixed. Signs directly painted on walls shall be considered wall signs. <br />• Window sign - Any sign attached to or directly applied onto a window or <br />glass door of a building intended for viewing from the exterior of such building. <br />PART II. SIGNS NOT REQUIRING A PERMIT. <br />Section 114. Specific signs not requiring a permit. <br />Certain types of signs do not require a sign permit, however, these signs are <br />still subject to all other regulations contained within this Ordinance unless <br />specifically stated otherwise. No permits are required for the following: <br />Signs placed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. <br />Incidental signs. <br />.. Non - illuminated signs not exceeding two per lot nor 2 square feet <br />in area per sign of a noncommercial nature and bearing only <br />property identification numbers and names, post office box numbers <br />and names of occupants of the premises. <br />Flags and insignia and signs of any government, when displayed <br />in connection with a noncommercial activity.
