Cabarrus County Zoning Ordinance <br />Chapter 1- General Provisions <br />General Provisions <br />Section 1 -1 Title and Intent <br />This Ordinance shall be known and may be cited as the Cabarrus County Zoning <br />Ordinance. It is the intent of this Ordinance to provide a system of intelligent land <br />usage through the creation of zoning districts and accompanying standards, the <br />creation of an administrative mechanism, and such other allied rules and regulations <br />that enable Cabarrus County government to fulfill its obligation to provide for and <br />promote the public safety, health, and general welfare of its residents. To that end, <br />these regulations may address, among other things, the following public purposes: to <br />provide adequate light and air; to prevent the overcrowding of land; to avoid undue <br />concentration of population; to lessen congestion in the streets; to secure safety from <br />fire, panic, and dangers; and to facilitate the efficient and adequate provision of <br />transportation, water, sewerage, schools, parks, and other public requirements. <br />These regulations have been made with reasonable consideration as to, among other <br />things, the character of the district and its peculiar suitability for particular uses, and <br />with a view to conserving the value of land and buildings and encouraging the most <br />appropriate use of land throughout the county. In addition, the regulations have been <br />made with reasonable consideration to expansion and development of any cities within <br />the county, so as to provide for their orderly growth and development. <br />Section 1 -2 Authority <br />This Ordinance is adopted pursuant to the authority contained in North Carolina <br />General Statutes Chapter 153A, Article 18 (Planning and Regulation of Development). <br />Whenever any provision of this Ordinance refers to or cites a section of the North <br />Carolina General Statutes and that section is later amended or superseded, the <br />Ordinance shall be deemed amended to refer to the amended section or the section <br />that most nearly corresponds to the superseded section. <br />Section 1 -3 Jurisdiction <br />This Ordinance shall be effective: <br />• everywhere throughout the County outside corporate municipalities except for <br />any areas that lie within the extraterritorial planning areas now or hereafter <br />established by any such municipality; and <br />Chapter 1 Page 1 of 6 <br />Attachment number 2 <br />G -4 Page 225 <br />
