Economic Services <br />Key Statistics: <br />Food and Nutrition: <br />• Total number of Food and Nutrition Cases: Estimated Over 11,000 (NC FAST preventing <br />a total and accurate case count at this time <br />• Total number of Food and Nutrition applications taken (July- September 2013): 1,869 <br />Child Care Subsidy: <br />• Total number of children receiving child care assistance: 698 <br />• Number of children on waiting list for services as of June 2013: 665 <br />Work First: <br />• Total number of cases in Work First as of September2013: 279 <br />Medicaid: <br />• Total Number of Cases as of September, 2013: 23,314 (6,411 in Adult and 16,903 in <br />Family /Children). <br />• Total Applications taken from July- September 2013: 4,328 <br />• Changes Processed from July- September 2013: 12,192 <br />• Reviews Processed from July- September 2013: 4,884 <br />Critical Trends: <br />• The Food and Nutrition Section continues to maximize all efforts to reduce the backlog <br />of cases within this area. Recent strategies include: 1. Commissioner Approval of <br />temporary staff to assist with keying applications 2. Restructuring of current staff to <br />teams to address backlog 3. Redeployment of two in -house staff to assist with the <br />backlog 4.
