Lesson II — Identify and Work with All Your <br />Partners; Don't Stop Reaching Out <br />Make friends before you need them. Find ways to <br />reach out in every direction; connect your local cham- <br />ber of commerce, EDO, faith community, and elected <br />officials at every level to your city in relationships based <br />on information and trust. Work with all your partners; <br />don't delay in engaging applicable partners. With a <br />project like the NCRC, many partners are needed to en- <br />sure a successful transition. <br />The importance of the work done by our legislative <br />delegations in Raleigh and in Washington, D.C. cannot <br />be underestimated, nor can the significant risks taken <br />and commitments made by our local elected officials. <br />The governor's office, the Gen- <br />eral Assembly, and the university Make <br />system continue to be key play- <br />ers providing resources we never direction; CO <br />dreamed possible.
