RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE BEN MYNATT <br />CHEVROLET- CADILLAC DEALERSHIP'S APPEAL TO <br />GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION TO REINSTATE ITS <br />AGREEMENTS <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County is dealing with a current unemployment <br />rate of 11.7%; <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County has suffered the loss of jobs at Pillowtex, Philip Morris <br />and a number of banks; <br />WHEREAS, small and medium sized business are important to Cabarrus County <br />employing more than 75,000 people, and provide exceptional service to customers and the <br />community; <br />WHEREAS, the Mynatt family individually and through the Mynatt automotive <br />dealerships have a long and honorable history of service to Cabarrus community for more than <br />a generation providing good jobs to hundreds of people with careers in automotive sales and <br />service since the 1970s; <br />WHEREAS, one of the many services offered to the community is their community <br />breakfast at Christmas in the dealership's garage. This goodwill gesture has become a <br />wonderful tradition with significant meaning for people in our community; <br />WHEREAS, losing the Chevrolet and Cadillac franchises would cause approximately <br />ninety eight people to lose their jobs, and create further hardships on their families; and <br />WHEREAS, the reduction in property and sales tax revenues from the Chevrolet - <br />Cadillac dealership closing would place financial strain on the County as a whole; and <br />WHEREAS, having an automotive dealership, like Ben Mynatt Chevrolet Cadillac, <br />that in addition to economically benefitting the community, works diligently and selflessly to <br />make the community a better place for its citizens is a very rare combination and should be <br />recognized as such. <br />NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Board of Commissioners of the County <br />of Cabarrus strongly advocates for the Ben Mynatt Chevrolet -Cadillac dealership's appeal to <br />General Motors Corporation to reinstate its agreements, and urges General Motors Corp. to <br />grant its request. <br />Adopted this 19`" day of January 2010. <br />H.
