Griffin Middle School,
which is already severely overcrowded.
The original completion date for the school, as agreed to in the contract, is September 8`h. It
was initially hoped by all parties that with good weather, this date could have been moved up
to the desired August 25`h date without any problem. Unfortunately, the weather this winter
has not cooperated and unless unusual measures and efforts are implemented, the August
25'h completion date is not possible.
To this end we request an additional $350,000 be provided to the contractor to offset their
costs for added general conditions including assigning more management staff to the project,
additional overtime and weekend work, innovative means and methods implemented by the
subcontractors where needed, as well as incentive monies.
If the Board of Commissioners agrees to approve this additional expenditure, we request that
the funds are made available to the project from the Sales Tax Credit Funds. Timely
approval by the Board of this request is appreciated due the limited amount of time between
now and August 25th and the limited number of things that can be expedited to effect this
change in completion date.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. Please contact Dr. Shepherd, Kelly Kluttz
or me if you have any further questions.
_-.Sincerely, , -y
" C;:, ~:~
~~ G
Dr. Barry Shepherd
Superintendent
Sincere,
f
~ n Wike, AIA
Director of Construction Services
G-3
Page 316
