This project will <br />include, among others, the reconstruction of the existing <br />interchanges at Poplar Tent Rd and the realignment of Pitts <br />School Rd in the vicinity of Poplar Tent Rd. <br />A portion of this I-85 project will: <br />Condemn 5.4 acres of farmland from the 75-acre <br />Barbee Farm, acres which are in a Voluntary <br />Agriculture District (VAD) and are have the Century <br />Farm distinction (worked by the same family for <br />100+ years) <br />Complicate farm work and irrigation for the Barbees <br />as it will split their main operation from their fields. <br />This will cause difficulties in moving equipment, <br />utilities (water, power), and people across the new <br />45 MPH road. <br />Displace farm manager Brent Barbee from his home, <br />currently located on the farm. <br />There is aless-expensive alternate option. <br />o NCDOT studied an alternate realignment of Pitt <br />mhtml:file://C:\Documcnts and Settings\gkhoneyc~t~\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Fi... 10/5/~1~19 <br />
