Cabarrus County Findings and Recommendations Report

Uninterruptible Power Supply: An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) could be used to keep the
system running for up to two hours during a commercial power failure. With the importance of
the telephone system to Cabarms County, this option should be considered. Factors influencing
the decision to purchase battery backup for the telephone system would be availability of battery
backup for the computer system, as well as space constraints. ALT and Sprint included two-hour
UPS units for each of the sites. The pricing was revised to reduce the system cost, and correctly
show this as an option. CTC correctly showed the cost as an option.

System Administration Temdnal: A system administration terminal is used to perform minor
moves, adds, and changes to the phone system. Some system management reports are also
available with most systems.

Headset: This is the cost of a headset compatible with the telephones proposed. Cabarms
County should consider the needs of the individual department to determine if any of these are
needed. We do recommend the purchase of one for the attendant console and for call center
agents.

Call Accounting: This is the cost to provide call accounting reporting capability. Many of the
systems will require the County to provide a personal computer on which the sot'cware will be
loaded. This PC should be dedicated to this function.

© 2000, RSM McGladrey, Inc. I'~- ' l 0 Page 7
