Property Maintenance The Property Maintenance Department is responsible for landscape maintenance for all county owned properties. These properties include: Governmental Center, Senior Center, Courthouse, Sheriff's Department, Historic Court- house, Morris Building, Health Department, Office Com- plex at Cabarrus Avenue, General Services, Kannapolis Library, Mt. Pleasant Library, Health Department Annex, Sheriff's Department Training Center, Landfill Office, Ani- mal Shelter, Lake Concord Dam and boat house area and three EMS stations. In addition to these county properties, the Property Maintenance Department is responsible for two public parking lots and parking areas at each county facil- ity. Other responsibilities are to maintain and set-up county school athletic fields for baseball, softball and soccer. This includes tuff maintenance, infield grading, fence repairs, lighting repairs, base repairs, lining of fields for softball and baseball, and mowing field lines for soccer. These lines are painted weekly and soccer goals are checked daily to insure safety. During the 1996 season over five hundred games were played on eighteen baseball/softball fields. All athletic fields at Frank Liske Park are also maintained by Property Maintenance. During the Spring, Summer and Fall, each of the three softball fields can accommodate three dif- ferent games each day. In addition to these, two soccer fields are used for practice and play year round by groups and teams. Property Maintenance personnel make all turf, irriga- tion, drainage and fence repairs on all county properties. Other duties include fertilization, application of insecticide and herbicide, mulching, pruning, mowing, planting, leaf collection, snow and litter removal. All county lawn equipment repairs are made by in-house personnel fi.om Property Maintenance; this includes mow- ers, tractors, trimmers and other implements. In conjunction with private ¢onlractors, the Property Maintenance Division is involved with all major improve- ments of county properties. This year's projects were in- stallation of irrigation and drainage systems to one Frank Liske Park balifield, Animal Shelter/General Services, and trees from Carolina Mall to name a few.
