Youth Bas~bail <br /> <br /> One hundred (100) baseball teams and 1,215 partici- <br />pants participated in this program that began in April and <br />was completed in June. Twenty-seven different fields <br />throughout Cabarrus County were used for games. Leagues <br />were offered for boys ages 9 - 17. <br /> <br />Youth Softball <br /> <br /> Seventy-eight (78) teams and 1,092 players participated <br />in the girls softball program - 40 teams in slow-pitch and 38 <br />teams in fast-pitch. Games began in April and were com- <br />pleted in June. Leagues were offered for girls ages 8 - 17. <br /> <br />Adult Softball <br /> <br /> A total of 75 teams participated in leagues offered at <br />Frank Liske Park and Bakers Creek Park during the fall and <br />summer seasons. Church, Open, Industrial, and Women's <br />leagues are offered. Play began in late spring and was com- <br />pleted in late summer. Fall league began in late August and <br />ran through mid-October. <br /> <br />Tennis Tournament/Jr. Tennis Program <br /> <br /> Tennis tournaments were held in conjunction with two <br />local festivals. A total of 47 participants competed in the <br />tennis tournaments. The Jr. Tennis program, in eoperation <br />with the Concord Tennis Association and the Concord Parks <br />and Recreation Department, is available to juniors with prior <br />tennis experience. League matches were played at Frank <br />Liske Park, Les Myers Park, and the Sportscenter. A total <br />of 85 juniors were involved in this program. <br /> <br />NYSCA <br /> <br /> The NYSCA program is a national organization de- <br />signed to make sports safer and more meaningful to kids. <br />As a local chapter, every coach involved in our program <br />receives instruction in safety and first aid, proper sports tech- <br />niques, and sportsmanship. Each coach is required to sign a <br />pledge of commitment to place the needs of children first in <br />sports. <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br /> <br />
