Planning and Zoning Commission
Minutes
March 12,2019
Directors Report
Ms. Susie Morris has a couple of things. For those of you that are interested in training, the
School of Government will be doing their road show again this spring. She will send that
information out to the Board and you can let us know if you are interested in registering for the
training. My guess is it that will probably be at the CCOG building, where we had training
before. They rotate between legislative decisions and quasi-judicial decisions, I think this time it
is back to legislative, but she will confirm that.
She said the Board should have received an email from her, and she is sorry because she sent it
out on the same day that the packet information went out, and it may have gotten lost. It was
about the County's Complete Count Committee, knowing that several of you are involved with
civic groups and church groups around the county. The County is starting a Complete Count
Committee for the Census. Essentially, that is an outreach group, so if you are part of larger
groups where you may be able to help us spread the word, like the Rotary or a church or the Y,
maybe. We would like to find partner agencies and community groups that can be part of that
committee and then can help us with the outreach.
What we have heard is that the Census 2020 will not be sent out by the mail. There will only be a
computer option. The Census takers canvass neighborhoods, they will have either a computer or
a phone. So, it is very important for us to reach the underserved populations, people who may not
have computers, may not have internet access.
So, as a part of that too, the County will be looking to partner with agencies, to potentially have
maybe a kiosk or a computer setup where people can go and complete that information, because
we want to make sure that everybody is counted. You all know that federal dollars are very
dependent upon population counts. We really want to try to get everybody counted and get them
counted where they actually live.
She said if anyone on the Board has an interest in being on that committee, let her know. She
does not anticipate that it would take up much of your time. The first training session with the
people from the Census will be on Thursday, March 28 th from 10:00 to 12:00, here in the
multipurpose room and then after that it will probably be a lot of pushing out information by
email. There will be things to try to get people interested.
The last item is she wants to make sure everyone is getting the emails. She said this was a very
large packet size. It was over 500 plus pages. She asked if everyone was okay on being able to
download the information. Ifwe need to start splitting it out into smaller sizes just let us know.
She has been in communication with some applicants that submitted applications through our
Clerks office for alternate members. She said a lot of the applications that we have are expired,
so if you know of anyone who may be interested, let them know so they can fill out the
application and the questionnaire.
60
