Jacob Stirewalt - <br />Jacob Franklin "Frank" Stirewalt born 2 December 1838, Rowan County, NC to Allison and Elizabeth Lewis Stirewalt. Living in <br />Rowan County, NC, "Frank" Stirewalt at age 23 years enlisted in Salisbury, NC in September 1861 as a Private in Co D "Oakland <br />Guards" 341h North Carolina Infantry Regiment, Scales Brigade. His duty was a teamster. Teamsters were the men who tended <br />to the horses and drove the supply wagons which accompanied the infantry. Frank married Laura Ellen Weddington. They had <br />seven children. His occupations listed in census 1850 —1910 are farmer, carpenter, textile. Frank died on 21 September 1911 <br />and was buried in the Oakwood Cemetery along with his wife Laure in Sect. G-15. <br />H.C. McAllister — <br />Harvey Caswell McAllister born 8 September 1835 in Gaston County, North Carolina to George & Elizabeth Plunk McAllister. At <br />the age of 24 years he enlisted in Gastonia on 9 April 1861 as a Private in Co A, 20th North Carolina Infantry. On 7 August 1861 <br />he was elected 3'd Lt. of Co A, 20th NC. On 6 April 1862 he transferred as a 3rd Lt. to Co H "Cabarrus Phalanx", 8th NC Infantry <br />Regiment. Co H "Cabarrus Phalanx" was formed in Mt. Pleasant. Co H was stationed on Roanoke Island, North Carolina when <br />they were overwhelmed by Union forces and captured on 8 February 1862. Co H was taken to Elizabeth City, NC where they <br />were paroled and exchanged on 21 February 1862. The company was re -assembled at Camp Mangum near Raleigh where they <br />became part of Gen. T.L. Clingman's Brigade and sent to Wilmington. In February 1863 Co H was sent to James Island near <br />Wilmington then after a couple weeks sent by train to Savannah. Again Co H was sent James Island and began work on the <br />fortification of Battery Wagner. They were positioned nearby Battery Wagner when Union forces had landed on nearby Morris <br />Island. On 18 July 1863 the assault on Battery Wagner began and if full view of Co H. The Union infantry assault had failed with <br />huge losses to Union forces but a siege by Navy ships began and lasted fifty eight days. Note: This infantry ground assault on <br />Battery Wagner by the 541h Massachusetts, a Black infantry unit, is depicted in the movie "Glory". <br />March 30, 1863 Co H marched to Charleston, boarded a train for Wilmington, after spending the greatest part of 1863 in the <br />defense of Charleston. Harvey was promoted to 15t Lt. on 1 February 1864. Co H served along the coast of North Carolina and <br />moved into Virginia where they served in the Petersburg Campaign of March —April 1864. From May —June 1864 they served <br />at Cold Harbor where many were killed and captured. Co H stayed in Virginia until March 1865 when they returned to North <br />Carolina and the remnants of the 8th NC then fought at the last major battle of the war, Battle of Bentonville. <br />In 1862 Harvey C. McAllister was married in Mt. Pleasant to Francis "Fannie" Cook the sister of Capt. Jonas Cook of Co H, 8th NC. <br />Harvey and Fannie had seven children. Harvey was both a farmer and contractor and became involved in politics. Besides <br />being a Cabarrus County Commissioner in 1874, he would also serve in both the North Carolina House of Representatives and <br />Senate. In 1889 he was elected Mayor of Mt. Pleasant. <br />Harvey Caswell McAllister died on 11 October 1914. His wife Fannie was born in Mt. Pleasant in 1845 and died in1918. They <br />are both buried in the cemetery of the Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity, aka Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mt. <br />Pleasant. <br />Dr.Robert Brown McAllister the former Superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools and noted Cabarrus County Historian and is <br />credited for forming the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society and saving and restoring the old campus of the Mt. Pleasant <br />Military Institute. He is the son of Robert Lee (named for Gen. Robert E. Lee) and Martha Jane Misenheimer McAllister and the <br />grandson of Harvey Caswell and Francis "Fannie" Christine Cook McAllister. Dr.R.B. McAllister along with his parents and <br />grandparents are buried in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity was formed <br />after the war by returning Confederate veterans.
