1
J
Consultant's Work Plan
At the heart of the Work Plan is listening and gathering data, which should increase the
probability of community buy -in with the final results.
To prepare the five -year plan, my colleagues and I will hold ten focus groups with the
following organizations:
- Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce.
- Cabarrus EDC
- Rowan Cabarrus Community College, especially small- business center
- Kannapolis Business Alliance
- The Midland Business Alliance
- Concord Downtown Development Corporation
- Downtown Concord Merchants Association
- The key business group in Harrisburg.
- Two other groups, to be determined.
Each focus group will last about two hours. Organizing each group will take about three
hours. Transcribing the information from each group will be three hours. Total time will
be 80 hours.
Additionally, my colleagues and I will interview, by phone or in person, the following 40
people.
- 15 small businesspeople,
- 10 home -based businesspeople
- 5 mayors and 5 city managers
- 5 others, to be determined.
Each conversation will last an hour, will require 0.5 hours of preparation, and one hour of
transcription and analysis. Total time will be 100 hours.
I propose three public events for this work:
- A public speech, probably in the evening, to introduce this initiative.
- A presentation of the preliminary data findings, with opportunities for
feedback and discussion.
- A final presentation, with special efforts to bring political leaders and get
media coverage.
Each event will require 8 hours preparation, 2 hours for the event itself, and 2 hours for
evaluation. That's 36 hours.
G -5
Attachment number 2
Page 295
