In
September, 41 medalists from the 1996 local games repre-
sented Cabarms County in the North Carolina Senior Games
State Finals competition in Raleigh. A number of gold, sil-
ver, and bronze medals were brought home by Cabarms
County participants.

Cabarms Senior Games local competition was held
throughout the month of May. Local games consisted of
opening ceremonies, athletic competition, the SilverArts
Display and Follies, and the closing ceremonies dinner /
dance. This year's opening ceremonies was held at Les
Myers Park, with 100 competitors and spectators. 100 se-
nors competed in 28 athletic events throughout the county.
The SilverArts Display was comprised of the visual, liter-
ary, and heritage arts.

The SilverArts Follies included 35 performers. Upon
the conclusion of the two weeks of local games, the closing
ceremonies dinner and dance was held at the David H.
Murdock Senior Center and was attended by 100 competi-
tors, spouses, volunteers and staff.

In June, an ice cream social was held to congratulate
all local games participants and to plan for State Finals com-
petition in Raleigh in October.

Athletic Division

The Athletic Division of the Cabarms County Parks and
Recreation Department operates programs for youth and
adults that consist of various league play, tournaments, spe-
cial events, summer sport camps, and one-day clinics. The
youth leagues are jointly co-sponsored by our department,
the City of Concord Parks and Recreation Depaxmtent, the
Cannon Memorial YMCA, and the nine local youth asso-
ciations in the county. Adult leagues are co-sponsored with
national organizations such as USSSA and NSA.
